Firearm Safety Training
Firearm safety is very important to the continued success of any shooting program. Safety depends on the person handling the firearm and the training must start at your level. We hold several Extended Range Days during the summer and fall to complete the DNR's on-line classroom program.

Wealthwood Rod & Gun Club offers 3 sessions in the summer for the Hybrid options for those interested in obtaining their Firearm Safety Certificate.
Hybrid Option

Students age 11 and older may complete their online hunter safety course at HunterCourse (link is external).

Then, attend an in-person classroom review and firearms fundamentals session. Students will finish with the field day portion.

Firearm Field Day- Day of Information:

Registration is from 7:30 am - 8 am, class is from 8 am - 2 pm.

Class sizes of 15.

The class will be rain or shine so dress according for the weather.

If you have a firearm, you may bring it with you as it will be use for demonstrating safe handling knowledge. If you do not have one, we can provide one.

No open-toe shoes as we will be outside for part of the day.

If you have eye and ear protection you are welcome to bring them, otherwise, we will provide these items.

Must bring a copy of the birth certificate or Driver's License AND proof of completed online course- if you do not have these, you will not be able to participate that day.

If the attendee has a disability that we should be aware of, please let us know ahead of time so we can accommodate and make it a positive experience for the attendee.

By law, no attendees are allowed to have a loaded firearm during the course, so if you are an adult attending or a parent that has a child attending, please do not bring any loaded firearms to the class including a permit to carry.

There will be a section where attendees will need to crawl under a fence, so wear clothes that can get a little dirt on them.

A .22 and ammunition will be provided by the club for the shooting portion.

Please leave your cell phone in the car.

Child must be 11 by the time they take the class.


Registration will start at 7:30 am. A safety instructor will be outside to inspect firearms for those who are bringing them, please do not bring them into the building until the instructor has gone through them. They must be unloaded and in a case. Registration will be in the Clubhouse where you will show proof of completion for the online portion, birth certificate, or driver's license, and sign off on the parental release/self-certification form. The class itself will begin at 8:00 am with introductions, a quick video, and a short quiz, that is a review of what you went over in the online class. Attendees will need to pass this before moving on to the rest of the class, so we ask parents to stay for about the first hour. Parents can leave after that but are more than welcome to stay for the entire class with their child and even help out. The class will wrap up about 2 pm.
At the end of class, attendees will get a signed form with a code to enter online and pay the $7.50 to receive/print out your firearm safety certificate.

Classes will be no larger than 15 in size. Registration will be based on a first come first serve. Please email, Zachspicer@yahoo.com to register. Emails must include: Name of the attendee, the Name of the parent/guardian if a minor, the date of birth, the date of the class for which you are wishing to register, the second choice of date in case the 1st choice is full, phone number. Registration will not be complete until all information is received.
